What is Apparent wind in Sailing?
The wind actually felt on the moving boat: the combination of the true wind and the headwind created by the boat's own motion. Fast boats, especially foilers, generate so much apparent wind that they sail with sails sheeted tight even downwind.
Example: Foiling boats live entirely in apparent wind.
