What is xA (expected assists) in Football?

The chance-creation cousin of xG: each pass that leads to a shot is credited with the xG value of that shot, measuring the quality of chances a player creates regardless of whether teammates finish them. A high-xA, low-assist player is being let down by finishing, not creating too little.
