What is xG (expected goals) in Football?

A statistic estimating the probability that a given shot becomes a goal, based on factors like distance, angle, body part, and type of assist. A tap-in might be worth 0.9 xG, a 30-yard shot 0.03. Summed over a match or season, xG shows the quality of chances a team created, separating good process from lucky finishing.

Example: They lost 1-0 but won the xG battle 2.4 to 0.6 — on another day they win comfortably.
