What is Forte and foible in Fencing?
The strong lower third of the blade near the guard (forte) and the weak flexible third near the tip (foible). Sound defence takes the opponent's foible with your forte — leverage, not strength, wins blade contests.
Example: He caught her foible on his forte and the parry was effortless.
