What is Balk in Diving?

Starting the approach or takeoff and stopping — for instance interrupting the hurdle or rocking out of an armstand. A balk draws a deduction by rule, and refusing again typically fails the dive.

Example: A gust of nerves caused a balk, and the judges' hands were tied.
