What is The 22 in Rugby?

The area between a team's try line and its 22-metre line. Inside your own 22 you may kick directly to touch and keep the ground gained, and a clean catch of an opponent's kick there can be 'marked' for a free kick — making the 22 the game's key territorial boundary.

Example: They barely escaped their own 22 for the entire second half.
