What is Prop in Rugby?

The two front-row forwards (loosehead, No. 1, and tighthead, No. 3) who bear the main pushing load in the scrum. Set-piece strength at prop is so specialised that laws require trained front-row replacements.

Example: The tighthead prop won a scrum penalty against his opposite number.
