What is Stroke rate in Rowing?

The number of strokes a crew takes per minute, also called the rating. Crews start high, settle into a lower rhythm for the body of the race, and lift the rate again for the final sprint.

Example: The graphic showed the leaders holding a rate of 36 through the middle 1000m.
