What is Catch in Rowing?

The moment the blade enters the water at the start of the stroke, with the rower fully compressed forward. A clean, simultaneous catch across the crew is one of the clearest signs of a well-drilled boat.

Example: All eight blades hit the catch together — a beautifully timed crew.
