What is Recovery in Rowing?

The phase between strokes when the rower slides forward to the next catch with the blade out of the water. The boat travels fastest during the recovery, so crews try to keep it smooth and unhurried to let the boat run.

Example: Good crews look slow on the recovery even at 38 strokes a minute.
