What is Feathering in Rowing?

Rotating the oar handle so the blade travels flat and parallel to the water during the recovery, reducing wind resistance. The blade is 'squared' back to vertical just before the next catch.

Example: In the crosswind, clean feathering kept the blades from clipping the waves.
