What is Coxless in Rowing?

Describes a boat without a coxswain, marked with a minus sign in shorthand (2-, 4-). In coxless boats one rower steers using a rudder cable connected to a swivelling shoe, glancing over a shoulder to check the course.

Example: The coxless four demands that someone rows and steers at once.
