What is Blade in Rowing?

The flat, spoon-shaped end of the oar that grips the water; also used informally to mean the whole oar. Blades are painted in national or club colours, which is often the easiest way to identify crews mid-race.

Example: You could pick out the crew by their tricolour blades.
