What is Follow-on in Cricket?

In Tests, if the side batting second falls 200 or more runs behind the first-innings total, the opposing captain may make them bat again immediately. It presses for victory with time saved, at the cost of the captain's own side batting last on a wearing pitch.

Example: Trailing by 250, the hosts were asked to follow on.
