What is Declaration in Cricket?

A Test captain's decision to end their side's innings voluntarily, sacrificing possible runs to leave enough time to bowl the opposition out. A well-timed declaration balances a safe lead against the overs needed to take ten wickets.

Example: The captain declared at tea, setting a target of 380 in four sessions.
