What is Kayak roll (Eskimo roll) in Canoeing?

The technique of righting a capsized kayak without leaving the boat, using a hip snap and paddle sweep. In kayak cross a full roll is a compulsory element of every race; in slalom it is the recovery skill that saves a run after a capsize.

Example: He rolled up instantly after the hole flipped him and only lost a boat length.
