What is Bow and stern in Canoeing?

The front (bow) and back (stern) of the boat. Sprint finishes are judged on the bow crossing the line; in slalom, both bow and stern are used to pivot around gate poles as tightly as possible.

Example: She buried the stern in the eddy to snap the boat around the upstream gate.
