What is Shot clock in Basketball?

The 24-second countdown within which the attacking team must get a shot to at least touch the rim, or lose possession. It resets to 14 seconds after an offensive rebound. Introduced to eliminate stalling, it is the single rule most responsible for basketball's relentless pace.
