What is PER (Player Efficiency Rating) in Basketball?

An all-in-one rating created by John Hollinger that condenses a player's per-minute box-score production — scoring, rebounds, assists, steals, minus misses and turnovers — into a single number, adjusted for pace and normalised so the league average is always 15. Values above 25 are superstar territory.
