What is Sack in American Football?
Tackling the quarterback behind the line of scrimmage while he is trying to pass. Sacks kill drives by losing yardage and can force fumbles; edge rushers who pile them up are among the game's highest-paid defenders.
Example: Third-and-long turned into a punt after the strip-sack.
