What is Field goal in American Football?

A 3-point place kick that must pass over the crossbar and between the uprights, typically attempted on 4th down when a team is in range. A missed attempt gives the opponent the ball at the spot of the kick (outside 20 yards).

Example: The kicker drilled a 52-yard field goal as time expired.
