What is Pass interference in American Football?

Illegally hindering an opponent's chance to catch a pass while the ball is in the air. Defensive PI in the NFL is a spot foul — the ball moves to where the foul occurred — so a deep-ball PI can gain 40+ yards in one flag.

Example: The desperate deep ball drew a pass interference call at the 2-yard line.
