What is Graining in Formula 1?

A tyre-degradation mode where the surface rubber tears and rolls into tiny balls that stick to the tread, reducing grip until the layer wears away. Common on cold tracks or when a car slides too much on fresh rubber.

Example: Front-left graining in the cool morning conditions wrecked the soft-tyre runs.
