What is Clean air in Formula 1?

Undisturbed airflow ahead of a car with no one closely in front, giving full downforce and gentler tyre wear. Race leaders benefit from it, and strategists sometimes pit a car early or late specifically to release it into clean air.

Example: Once in clean air after the stop, his lap times dropped by over a second.
