What is DRS in Formula 1?

Drag Reduction System — a rear-wing flap that opens on designated straights to reduce drag and boost top speed. Under the long-standing rules it was only available to a car within one second of the one ahead, as compensation for dirty air; the 2026 regulations replace its overtaking role with active aero modes and a manual-override energy boost.

Example: He closed to within a second at the detection line and used DRS to sail past into Turn 4.
