What is Blistering in Formula 1?

Tyre damage from overheating inside the rubber: pockets of it break apart and chunks can tear from the surface. Where graining comes from a cold, sliding surface, blistering comes from sustained overheating.

Example: Long full-throttle sections at Monza blistered the rear tyres of anyone who pushed too early.
