What is Backmarker in Formula 1?

A car near the back of the field that the leaders catch to lap. Backmarkers are shown blue flags and must let the lapping car through; slow compliance can cost leaders seconds.

Example: The gap vanished while the leader was stuck in a train of backmarkers.
