What is Fifty-move rule in Chess?

If fifty consecutive moves are made by each side without any pawn move or any capture, the game may be claimed as a draw. The rule prevents endless shuffling in endgames that are going nowhere.

Example: The fortress held until the fifty-move rule ended the game.
