What is Discovered attack in Chess?

Moving one piece unveils an attack from another piece that was hiding behind it. When the unveiled attack is a check it is a discovered check — one of the most violent tactics in chess because the moving piece can do damage anywhere with impunity.

Example: The knight leapt away with a discovered check, winning the queen.
