What is Edge ball in Table Tennis?

A ball that clips the top edge of the playing surface and deviates unplayably. It is a legal, in-table ball — one of the sport's accepted slices of luck, conventionally acknowledged with a raised hand of apology.

Example: Match point ended on an edge ball, and he apologised even as he celebrated.
