What is Penalty kill in Ice Hockey?

Playing short-handed while a teammate serves a penalty. Killers collapse into a compact box or diamond, block shots and ice the puck freely (icing does not apply short-handed). Killing off a two-man disadvantage can energize a team like a goal.
