What is Penalty loop in Biathlon?

A 150 m loop of track beside the shooting range that an athlete must ski once for every missed target in sprint, pursuit, mass start and relay races. Each loop costs roughly 20-30 seconds, which is why shooting accuracy often outweighs raw ski speed.

Example: Two misses on the final standing bout sent her around the penalty loop twice and off the podium.
