What is Snooker (the position) in Snooker?

A position where the cue ball has no direct straight line to any part of a ball on, forcing the opponent to escape off cushions or with swerve. The sport is named after its own defensive weapon; 'laying a snooker' is how trailing players manufacture foul points.

Example: Needing two snookers, he tucked the white behind the green.
