What is Handicap in Golf?

A number expressing a golfer's demonstrated ability under the World Handicap System — lower is better, and a scratch golfer plays off zero. Handicap strokes are subtracted from the gross score to give a net score, letting players of different standards compete fairly.

Example: Playing off a 14 handicap, her net 70 won the monthly medal.
